Everton boss David Moyes is closing in on a deal to bring America's World Cup hitman Landon Donovan to Goodison Park on a three-month loan deal.
The Los Angeles Galaxy star is believed to be in advanced discussions with the Toffees about the switch as he bids to maintain his fitness before the World Cup finals in South Africa next summer.
Donovan, 27, was named MLS' Most Valuable Player last season after helping the Galaxy to the MLS Cup final, where they were beaten on penalties by Real Salt Lake.
Moyes has enjoyed success with loaned strikers from the MLS before, signing
Brian McBride for a brief but productive spell during his first full
season in charge of the Toffees.
And he is now keen to repeat the trick once again with Donovan, an international team-mate of the Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard, after he netted 15 goals in 29 games for Bruce Arena's men last season.
The capture of Donovan, who is USA's all-time leading goalscorer, would be a welcome boost to the Scot given the host of injury problems he has had to contend with this season.
