Everton boss David Moyes admits he would be 'interested' in bringing Diego Forlan to Goodison Park, but concedes a move for the Atletico Madrid hitman in the New Year is unlikely.
Forlan, 30, has been in devasting form since ending his unhappy spell with Manchester United in 2004 to join Villarreal in a £2million deal.
The Uruguay international may not have been able to hit a barn door during his time at Old Trafford, but has has well and truly disgarded his 'donkey' tag in Spain - forging a repuation as one of the best strikers in the world.
Having won the European Golden Shoe on two occasions in 2005 and 2009, Forlan has proved the doubters wrong and Moyes has confirmed his admiration as he looks to bolster his injury-hit squad.
Forlan, who has scored 64 goals in 124 games for Atletico since arriving at the Vicente Calderon in 2007, has been linked with a move away from the club following their dismal early season form which has seen them win just three La Liga games from their first 13.
However, Moyes admits the chances of luring Los Colchoneros' No.9 to Merseyside are remote as he will be consigned to the bargain basement bin for recruitments.
"If he was interested I would give him a home, yes," Moyes is quoted as saying on skysports.com.
"We've played with one arm tied behind our back with what we've got but I hope to make some additions in January. The ones who come in will be on loan.
"I think with those plus the players coming back, there will be a swell that will take us into the second half of the season."
