Everton boss David Moyes is desperate to add some reinforcements to his struggling squad and has identified former Manchester United forward Diego Forlan as his number one target.
The Atletico Madrid man is believed to be interested in a move away from Spain after Atletico have started this season poorly.
He has excelled since swapping Old Trafford for sunny Spain - first with Villareal and now Madrid's second son - Atletico, blasting 53 goals in 79 league appearances.
But a move to these shores before he is over the hill is sure to interest the World Cup bound Uruguayan ace.
One stumbling block for a potential move is Atletico's astronomical asking price - believed to be in excess of £30million - which is sure to put the Toffees off.
However, Moyes intimated that a loan deal could be an option and that he would welcome Forlan's arrival with open arms.
“If he was interested I would give him a home here but I have said that the players we bring in will probably be on a loan basis.”
Spurs travel to Goodison Park this afternoon and the home side will be desperate for a positive result after a string of disappointing displays on Merseyside.
