Everton quell rumours of Lescott departure

The Merseyside club have poured water over mounting speculation today that Manchester City target Joleon Lescott is set to leave the club.

When news broke that the former Wolves man, who has been the subject of two big money bids from The Citizens, was left out of the Toffees pre-season trip to Coventry today, speculation was rife that a deal had been done to rubber stamp the switch.

But in a statement on the club's official website they have reassured the Goodison faithful that Lescott simply didn't feature because he is injured.

"Joleon Lescott misses Sunday's pre-season friendly with Coventry because of a hip injury."

The Merseysiders have issued a hands off approach to the big spending Eastlands outfit but boss Hughes is hell-bent on landing the cultured stopper.

The relentless pursuit the Citizens have embarked on to land the defender has angered Everton boss David Moyes. The saga looks set to continue.

Lescott

I think once Lescott said he wants to leave, Moyes should take the money and let him leave. No point hanging onto a player who's going to be unhappy! It's a shame to see him go, but he's obviously only going for the money, if City finish outside of a european place and dont win any silverware all those expensive signing's will want to move on again i think.

Why is Moyes making such a big issue of this. It seems clear to me that Lescott will make the move to Man City so why don't Everton sell now and give themselves time to spend the money, rather than do what Spurs did with Berbatov and keep hold of him until the very last seconds of the transfer window.
