Eagles boss Neil Warnock is reportedly set to table a bid to bring former Sheffield United striker Jon Stead to South-West London.
The Ipswich Town man has been teh subject of sustained interest all summer from Warnock, but his hands have been tied with the transfer embargo that has been placed on the club.
But with that having been lifted, a formal bid will be lodged with The Tractor Boys to try and prise the 26-year-old targetman away from Portman Road.
A loan move had been mooted, but now it seems The Eagles want to make permanent additions to their squad, and the former England U21 international is thought to be at the top of outspoken boss Neil Warnock's list.
However, Ipswich boss Roy Keane is reluctant to allow any of his attacking players leave until reinforcements have been made. He remains perplexed at the club's slow start to the season, with them failing to win a single game so far this term.
A bid thought to be in the region of £300,000 will be tabled imminently by officals at Selhurst Park.
