Chelsea 'keeper Petr Cech has spoken openly about the secret tactics behind saving penalties, following a number of high-profile misses in the Premier League.
Last weekend saw the likes of Frank Lampard, Jermain Defoe and Cesc Fabregas all fail to convert from the spot during their respective Premier League fixtures.
The trend has continued this weekend, with Stoke goalie Thomas Sorensen foiling a spot kick from Wigan's Hugo Rodallega to clinch a point for The Potters at The Britannia Stadium.
Now, one of the world's best between the sticks - Czech Republic international Petr Cech has revealed what he believes is the secret behind thwarting a free strike from 12 yards out.
"I always say that a penalty cannot really be saved but can be only badly executed," said Cech.
"When you face a penalty kick you have a lot of information about the
penalty taker but you must count on your intuition as well and look at
body language, because you always know what the preference of the
penalty taker is, but you don't know if he is going to use it," he
claimed.
"The special secret is to make a good decision. You need to wait until the last moment and not make it easier for the striker."
That some er, revealing stuff there Petr. Definitely cleared that one up.
