Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he plans to remain as Blues coach for an extended period as he settles into life in South West London.
Ancelotti became Chelsea’s seventh manager this decade when he was appointed coach in the summer having spent eight seasons with AC Milan.
Longevity has been a lost word for many a chairman in an age when the average lifespan of a coach continues to dwindle, however, the Italian is aiming for just that as he seeks to usher in a new era of stability at Stamford Bridge.
After just 13 games at the helm, ‘Carletto’ has guided his troops to the top of the table, five points clear of nearest rivals Manchester United, as well as securing qualification into the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
Having settled in nicely to life in SW9, the 50-year-old has set his sights on a long-term position as Blues boss.
''My objective is to keep this position for a long time, and to maintain the club's position at the top of the Premier League and doing well in the Champions League,'' he was quoted as saying in the Independent.
''I think that this is a good thing, to maintain stability in the club. Mourinho did very well here. Other coaches had difficulties but now I hope to keep the same line of Mourinho.”
Ancelotti also expressed his passion and commitment to the Chelsea cause as he mingles and works in what he calls ‘a family like’ atmosphere.
''I never thought that I train for money. For sure, the club pay me to train this team, but I'm here because of my passion and enthusiasm,” he said.
“Chelsea is a like a family and there is a good atmosphere here.”
Ancelotti joins an illustrious list of men who have led The Blues at some point in the last decade. Included in the list are the likes of Gianluca Vialli, Claudio Ranieri and Guus Hiddink. The Italian will be hopeful that the list for the next decade is considerably shorter.
