Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka admits that claiming a Premier League title with Chelsea will top the first medal he won with Arsenal in 1998.
Anelka will renew old acquaintances with the club he made his name with when the league leaders travel to the Emirates Stadium to face third place Arsenal hoping to severely dent the Gunners’ title aspirations this season.
The 30-year-old spent two seasons under the guidance of Arsene Wenger where he won a famous double in 1998 - his only league success whilst in England.
Anelka netted his first goal in eight games on Wednesday night as Chelsea secured a 1-0 win over Portuguese champions FC Porto at the Estadio do Dragao and thus seal top spot in Group D of the UEFA Champions League.
'Le Sulk' is now turning his attentions to Sunday's eagerly-awaited Red v Blue clash with former club Arsenal, knowing that a win will go a long way towards boosting the Blues' championship hopes. "Winning it with Chelsea will be even bigger than when I did it with Arsenal," he told the London Evening Standard.
"That will mean I'm in one of the biggest teams in the world.
"When I won it with Arsenal I did appreciate it at the time. Sometimes you only have one chance in your life. I had this chance before and now I have a second chance to win it again,” he added.
Anelka reflected on how the Arsenal double-winning side of 1998 compares with the current Chelsea side and admitted that nothing shall be settled with regards to the title race whatever Sunday's outcome.
"I don't know if this team are better than the Arsenal one I played in. Arsenal were strong but this Chelsea side are strong too," he said. "I did it with Arsenal and I can definitely do it as well with Chelsea.
"Anything is possible in football. Even if we're on top and a lot of points in front of everybody, it's possible we could make a mistake after."
