Under-fire Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson may well have driven the final nail into his own coffin after once again publicly slating 'three of four' of his under-performing stars.
Megson's side are currently languishing in 19th place in the Premier League after succumbing to a 2-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Wolves on Saturday, while they have won just three times from their first 14 games this season.
Their woeful performances have increased the pressure on Megson, with a section of the Reebok Stadium faithful making it abundantly clear that they want shot of the former West Brom boss, who was never a popular choice.
The 50-year-old has been pointing the finger of blame firmly at his players in recent weeks and after another weekend of disappointment...guess what...he is up to his old tricks again.
"I don't like criticising my players publicly but three or four of them are not playing like I know they can," said Megson.
"We've got exceptional players who are not playing as well as I know they can. Our club deserves better than this.
"With two home games coming up, there has to be a realisation of what we're doing.
"The message is not getting through to a few of the players."
While Megson refused to name the players in question, what was telling on Saturday was that Sam Ricketts and Fabrice Muambe, regulars in the starting XI earlier in the season, were left on the bench at Molineux.
Meanwhile, having paid a club-record £11million for Swedish hitman John Elmander back in 2008 from Toulouse, Megson can be forgiven for expecting a lot more than just eight goals from 41 appearances.
However, at the end of the day the buck stops with Megson, afterall Ricketts, Muamba and Elmander are all his signings therefore he has to be held accountable.
Defeats against Manchester City and West Ham United over the next seven days and Megson may very well be handed his P45 with no one else to blame but himself.
