Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson is reportedly weigning up a £4million bid to bring Newcastle United's England Under-21 hitman Andy Carroll to the Reebok Stadium in the New Year.
The 20-year-old has been impressing in the Championship so far this season, scoring three goals in his 11 appearances for the Magpies, and has caught the eye of Megson with his robust and physical style.
Indeed, rather like Bolton favourite Kevin Davies, who turns 33 next March having made over 220 appearances for the club spanning over seven seasons, Carroll has earned a reputation for his aggressive nature.
Davies is frequently cited as being the player in the Premier League that commits the most fouls, committing more offences than any other player in the 2004–05, 2005–06, 2006–07 and 2008-09 seasons.
On the other hand in the 2003-04 and 2007-08 campiagns the Trotters captain was slightly better behaved, committing the second highest number of fouls for each season!
Carroll himself is far from a golden boy, in September 2008 he was arrested by police at the Pudding Chare bar in Newcastle responding to a report that a woman had been assaulted, Carroll later accepted a police caution for assault.
A move for Carroll may raise a few eyebrows, but Megson he is in desperate need of firepower at the Reebok ahving watched his side score just 14 goals in their opening 10 games so far this campaign.
