Gary Megson has revealed that members of his Bolton Wanderers squad have suffered with swine flu, but asserted that he was not concerned that the virus could spread between players on the pitch.
Next up for Bolton are Chelsea in Wednesday's Carling Cup fourth round tie, with Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce admitting his fears that the Blues may have contracted the virus after facing his infected side on the weekend.
Following Rovers' 5-0 mauling on Saturday, Big Sam revealed that he had contacted the Premier League prior to the game in order to express his concern that Carlo Ancelotti's men were at risk to infection.
However, there is nothing in Football League rules that allows for games to be abandoned for fear of contagion, so Rovers had to battle through despite leaving David Dunn and Christopher Samba ill in bed.
Megson vowed to put out a team on Wednesday night whatever the situation regarding the virus in the Chelsea ranks, asserting that he didn't believe the virus could be easily contracted in a match environment.
"Not from that perspective because I've heard varying opinions and I think the one we all need to listen to is that from the medical people, who are saying that it is very difficult, if not impossible, to contract it in that way," he was quoted as saying in PA Sport.
"From our own point of view, you're not going to be a business with quite a few employees and it totally escapes you.
"You are going to get one or two with swine flu and I think on the playing staff I think we have had five, four players and one member of staff. You try and do your best to avoid it but I would imagine it's near enough impossible.
"They are all okay at the moment, but it wouldn't be right to start giving you names."
Besides, Megson shouldn't be overly concerned, judging by the 5-0 scoreline on the weekend, Blackburn's players clearly didn't come into particularly close contact with the Chelsea team over the course of the 90 minutes!
