Bolton boss Gary Megson is believed to be ready to match Wolves' £6.5million offer for Reading striker Kevin Doyle, while he is also said to be keen on signing South Korean youngster Lee Chung-yong, according to the player's agent.According to a report in the
Sunderland Echo, Megson has identified Republic of Ireland hitman Doyle, 26, as the type of livewire who could help
reinvigorate his side's attack, having promised to implement a more attractive style of football at the Reebok next season.
After their failure to regain Barclays Premier League status at the
first attempt,
Reading are resigned to the loss of Doyle, who scored 18 goals in the Championship last season, and having already accepted an offer from
Wolves are now expecting the Trotters to match that bid shortly.
Meanwhile, Megson is also understood to be on the trail of 20-year-old South Korea international Lee Chung-yong, who is widely regarded as one of Asia's most promising youngsters.
The highly-rated winger, who is also thought to be attracting interest from Manchester City, currently plays in his homeland with FC Seoul and has won 16 caps for his country, scoring 2 goals.
Kim Seung-tae, general manager of Ti Sports which represent Lee, confirmed that Megson has been keeping tabs on the youngster, althought there has been no approach yet.
"Yes, Bolton have sent a scout to watch him play for South Korea. However, nothing has been discussed at this stage," he told the local media.
Having stated last month that he felt his squad was too small to compete in the Premier League, Megson is evidently trying to remedy the situation with his apparent interest in Doyle and Lee.
The Trotters boss is also believed to have targeted Swansea's Ferrie
Bodde after reportedly ending his pursuit in
Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso, while Sean Davis and Paul Robinson could also become new recruits at The Reebok.
