Celtic star Aidan McGeady is poised to swap Glasgow for Birmingham and link up with Alex McLeish's charges at St Andrews.

With new owner Carson Yeung at the helm, Blues boss Alex McLeish has been promised a transfer window war chest in excess of £40million to spend how he pleases.

The Scot has a number of targets in mind but the Irish international winger is understood to be at the very top of his list.

McGeady, 23, is apparently desperate to test himself in The Premier League and would jump at the chance of a move to Birmingham. While Celtic are understandably desperate to hang onto one of their most prized assets, their resolve will be tested by a reported £7million bid from The Blues.

However, McLeish knows that he must convince the club's hierarchy to part with the cash - even though it has been promised to him. He is also keen to ensure he spends it wisely.

"If I was to say to Carson that I would like to spend £10m on a top, top striker then we have got to convince everybody that is the right man.

"I will try and be as careful with the money as I can, but I know we are trying to bring in another level of player so maybe we are going to have to spend a little bit more in terms of the overall package.

"If we have got Premier League ambitions then we need to bring in the quality."
