Some people are just never happy and Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is most certainly one of them. Not content with bringing no fewer than TEN new faces to the club this summer, the Scot insists he still needs at least 'three more players'.The former
Rangers and
Scotland manager is well aware of the pitfalls that lie ahead in the coming months as he attempts to establish the Midlands club back in the top-flight.
But having brought Joe Hart, Steven Carr,
Roger Johnson, Scott Dann, Giovanny Espinoza, Gregory Vignal,
Lee Bowyer,
Barry Ferguson, Jay O'Shea and Christian Benitez to St Andrews in the close season, McLeish fears he is still short quality-wise to tackle the 'big boys'.
"We are not equipped for the Premier League as things stand now. We still need three more players, at least," explained McLeish.
"It's downright bad luck that we have had some injury problems. That's no one's fault. But it has to be realised that if this team is to stay in the Premier League we need more quality.
"I will endeavour to do my very best and draw on all my experience to keep us in the Premier League, but we are definitely a little short of investment."
A little short of investment Alex? Spare a thought for
Burnley, who are being forced to operate within even greater constraints. Remember - they achieved promotion last season with the second smallest budget in the entire Championship!

Relegation candidates?
I've noticed a lot of outlets still classing Birmingham as relegation candidates but I think they have a strong enough side to steer clear of the drop zone.
Then again the likes of Newcastle proved you could have a decent team and still fail to avoid the drop. I'm backing Birmingham for a midtable finish however and will be very shocked to see them go straight back down to the Championship.
McLeish stating he's short of quality will either motivate the current squad to perform better or backfire and leave them demotivated.
Keeping a locker room harmony is key, Hull proved that last season. I think he should wait to see how the first handful of matches go before attempting to bring in more personally.
