Birmingham City have completed the signing of Barry Ferguson from Rangers after the combative midfielder passed his medical at St Andrews.
The 31-year-old is now re-united with his former
Rangers boss Alex McLeish at St Andrews after completing a deal worth in excess of £1.2million.
The former
Blackburn Rovers man fell into hot water in
Scotland towards the end of his second spell at Ibrox, where he was stripped of the captaincy for both club and country after his off-field drunken antics were punished. Despite parting on a sour note however, the fiery midfielder was something of a 'Gers legend and fan favourite.
He appeared almost 300 times for the Glasgow club over two stints, with a break inbetween at
Blackburn Rovers. Now he is testing himself once more in the Premier League having put pen to paper on a two-year-deal with the option of a further year.
It is Alex McCleish's eighth addition to the newly-promoted Blues outfit's squad as they face a battle to survive in the Premier League.
Team mates at
Rangers praised Ferguson's contribution to the club as he left.
"He is one of the best players I have ever been lucky enough to play with," former
Rangers team-mate Nach Novo told the club's
official website.
"Barry is a big personality and he's a worker. He has always helped
everybody here and he's a person I've always got on very well with.
"We will miss him here. I am sure that he will do well there."
