Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has dismissed reports that he has met with Birmingham City officials to discuss a possible move to St Andrews this summer.Skysports.com had reported yesterday that the Blues had held discussions with the
Inter Milan midfielder on Wednesday and were believed to have offered the 33-year-old a two-year deal in a bid to entice him back to the Premier League.
The story seemed to hold some credibility given the fact that Blues boss Alex McLeish has recently stated that he is determined to sign a 'real quality midfielder' - which Vieira certainly is - before the start of the new season while the club's chairman David Gold had revealed that a move for the
France international "was not dead."
However, in an interview with respected French publication
L'Equipe, Vieira has denied that he has had any contact with the Premier League new-boys and is adamant that he will return to the San Siro to hold talks with
Nerazzurri chiefs before making a decision on his future.
"They say I've had contact with Birmingham City but, with all due respect for that club, this is not the case," he said.
"What is certain is that I will get back with Inter and that I will take a look at my future with the bosses."Meanwhile,
Lyon advisor Bernard Lacombe has once again declared that the Ligue 1 outfit could be interested in luring Vieira to the Stade Gerland this summer but admits that OL have more pressing matters to attend to.
"We could be attracted by Viera," he said in
France Football."However, with the departures of Juninho, Karim Benzema and Keita, we have other priorities at this point."
