Lee Bowyer has become Birmingham City's seventh signing of the summer after the club confirmed the midfielder has signed a two-year deal at St Andrews.

The 32-year-old made 17 appearances for the Blues during his loan spell at the back end of last season and was instrumental in helping the club secure automatic promotion from the Championship.

Having secured Bowyer's signature from West Ham and strengthened his defence and strike-force, to the tune of more than £15million, Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has promised Blues fans to expect more new arrivals before the start of the season, as he set his sights on improving the midfield department.

"I have several names in mind for the crucial midfield positions," the Scot is quoted as saying by skysports.com.

"I know what I am looking for in the team and the board have pledged their support to back me in this."

Speculation continues to link a host of players with a move to the Premier League new-boys with former Arsenal captain Partick Vieira, Newcastle bad-boy Joey Barton and Rangers ace Barry Ferguson all believed to be on McLeish's shopping list.
