Martin O'Neill is lining up a move for Barcelona attacker Eidur Gudjohnsen which would see the Icelandic international return to the Premier League.
Still out of favour at the Nou Camp, Gudjohnsen, aged 30, is thought to be keen to secure first team football and a move back to the Premier League is sure to appeal. He has enjoyed succesful stints at both
Chelsea and
Bolton, and O'Neill is known to want new faces with proven Premier League experience.
Gudjohnsen is considered to be the greatest player ever to hail from the small, volcanic island and his record at club level speaks for itself. He has found the net on no fewer than 133 occasions during a 15 year career, as well as notching 23 international goals in 58 appearances.
He was signed by Bareclona for around £10million in 2006, having enjoyed a prosperous 6-year-stay at Stamford Bridge, winning two Premier League titles and one FA Cup medal with the West Londoners.
The Villains may face stiff competition to secure the signature of Gudjohnsen however with
Fulham and
Everton also monitoring the situation.
West Ham had been tracking the
Barcelona forward but have now cooled their interest after signing
Inter Milan midfielder Luis Jimenez, as reported here on
ExtraFootie. In what could prove to be a real bargain for Villa, Gudjohnsen may be available for around just £3million, with the Catalan giants seemingly desperate to off-load the player.
