Wenger: We are back in the title race

Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger believes his side are firmly back in the title race following their 2-1 win at Anfield on Sunday.

An own goal by Liverpool full-back Glen Johnson and a superb strike by winger Andriy Arshavin blasted the Gunners to a 2-1 win after Dirk Kuyt had given Liverpool the lead.

The result lifted the Gunners back up to third place in the table and only three points behind second place Manchester United and six behind table-toppers Chelsea with a game in hand to boot.

Having been written off a fortnight ago after a crushing 3-0 defeat at home to Chelsea, Arsene coach Arsene Wenger feels his team are now firmly back in the title race and ready to mount a serious championship challenge.

"A fear of winning the big games after losing to Chelsea and United was a factor in the first half," the Frenchman told Sky Sports.

"We brought that into the game, but once we had nothing to lose in the second half, we controlled the game.

"We were a bit lucky with our first goal, but the fear was in the Liverpool camp in the second half. It was an outstanding second goal and from then on Liverpool's pace dropped. Afterwards we were not under any real threat.

"For us, it gets us back into it. Mathematically we're in a good position again, especially with our game in hand.”

Wenger also admitted that results on Saturday proved that the league is far from a two-horse race and admitted that consistency will be a key factor for whichever side will go on to take this season’s crown.

"We knew with what happened with the results yesterday (Saturday) that we needed to win here. We did so and that's something very positive. Now it is down to consistency,” he affirmed.

"Whoever wins this league is going to be the one capable of being really consistent and no-one has done that yet.

"But I don't think it is a three-horse race, because there are the likes of Villa, Tottenham and Manchester City in there too."

exactly - lol - imagine if Eboue grabs the Championship-winning goal!!!

I am praying Arsenal win the league. I'm shocked they still have such a good chance and would love to see them do it. Please God let Eboue score the goal that wins it for them :-)
