Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has dismissed speculation linking him with a shock move to bring unsettled Real Madrid hitman Ruud van Nistelrooy to the Emirates Stadium in January.
Reports last week had suggested that Wenger had identified Van Nistelrooy, 33, as a possible short-term replacement for the injured Robin van Persie, who faces up to five months on the sidelines.
The former Manchester United star, who netted a staggering 150 goals in 220 appearances during his five year stay at Old Trafford, is known to be frustrated at his lack of action at the Santiago Bernabeu this season.
'Van the Man' has fallen behind the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema and Raul in the pecking order and could be interested in a move away as he looks to secure his place in the Holland squad for next summer's World Cup finals.
He has been linked with a return to the Premier League for some time, with the Gunners' North London rivals Tottenham mooted as another possible destination, although Arsenal appeared to be the frontrunners for his signature.
However, Wenger admits any move for the prolific Dutchman is highly unlikely due to the history he has with the club following a number of high-profile bust-ups with Arsenal players during his United days.
Asked about the chances of signing van Nistelrooy his pursuit of a new frontman, 'The Professor' said: "It would not be the best of starts, bearing in mind our past relationship! You have my number - you can text me all the names you find!"
