Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is prepared to revive his interest in Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh in a desperate attempt to add some much needed firepower to his goal shy attack.
The Frenchman has admitted his concern after watching his side fail to score in back-to-back Premier League defeats against Chelsea on Sunday and Sunderland a week prior.
To compound his misery star striker Robin Van Persie has been ruled out for up to five months with a serious ankle injury, while Nicklas Bendtner continues to struggle with a groin strain.
According to various reports the Gunners boss is now contemplating adding to his attacking options at the Emirates Stadium when the transfer window opens in January.
Wenger remains an admirer of Chamakh after failing to capture the signature of the 25-year-old in the summer when Bordeaux rejected his £5million offer - valuing the Moroccan at three times that amount.
However, Chamakh could be available at a knockdown price given he is out of contract at the Stade Chaban Delmas at the end of the current campaign and has insisted he is in no rush to ink a new deal with the Ligue 1 champions.
Meanwhile, theDaily Mail claim that Toulouse striker Andre-Pierre Gignac, 23, also remains on Wenger's shortlist and could be a target if the Gunners fail in their attempts to lure Chamakh to North London.
I would hardly say being joint top scorers in the league constitutes being "goal shy", however do agree that they need to sign another striker to lead the line with some presence as Eduardo and Vela are never going to be able to lead the line outright.
I actually though Eduardo was woeful on Sunday and didn’t look up to the standard required with the Chelsea backline dominating from start to finish.
