The Football League have confirmed they have asked the FIA for
further details regarding Queens Park Rangers owner Flavio Briatore's
suspension from Formula One.
Rules state, if an individual has been banned by another sporting body then they cannot own a club in the Football League.
This applies
to Italian businessman Briatore as of Monday after he was banned from
Motorsport for life for fixing a race in Singapore.
There is now speculation as to whether the 59-year-old would pass the league's 'fit and proper person test'.
A Football League spokesman said: "The Football League chairman, Lord Mawhinney, has today written to the FIA to request further details of its decision.
"Thereafter, the League will consider its position on the matter."
Briatore became joint chairman of QPR in 2007 with Bernie
Ecclestone before they were shortly joined by Lakshmi Mittal, the
fourth richest person in the world.
It is now thought Mittal will increase his stake in the club and buy out his partner's share if he is forced to step down.
