Campbell hoping for Newcastle move

Free agent Sol Campbell appears to be missing wearing the black and white stripes of Notts County, and wants to remedy that by joining Newcastle in January.
The 35-year-old defender left Meadow Lane a month ago after just one appearance for County, and has been without a club ever since due to a rule which prevents him playing for more than two clubs in 12 months.
Alternatively he would be allowed to find a new team if County released his registration, but as of yet the League Two outfit have not done so.
Now the former Arsenal and England centre back has expressed a desire to join Championship club Newcastle as soon as he is able to, claiming he has been approached by the Tyneside club as well as several other sides.
"Newcastle are a big club and could be heading back to the Premier League," he told ESPN Soccernet. "It appeals."
"I have been approached by several clubs, and yes, it is correct to say that Newcastle are one of them.
"People might be surprised to hear me say that I would be very interested in a move there, but I have my reasons.
Campbell is considering taking his matter to a Football League tribunal, though the Nottingham club have said they will release his registration if he signs a "statement of departure".
"I have spoken with Gordon Taylor and he will impress upon the League the urgency of the case and try to make a tribunal hearing a priority. If we can sort it all out at the tribunal I would hope to be playing within weeks from now.
"I am training every day with Arsenal, feel fit - as fit as ever - and now I really need some matches. But, to sort out the mess at Notts County, a Football League tribunal seems to be the only way out."
