A group of wealthy businessmen from Bangkok are ready to table a bid to buy Manchester United football club outright.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson denied this week that the club were in any financial trouble and insisted that there were funds ready and waiting at his disposal should he wish to use them.
However, rumours persist that poor debt management by the current men in charge at Old Trafford - the Glazer family - has left the club on the verge of disaster.
Now it seems that the vultures are circling, and a consortium of businessmen from the Far East are set to step in and buy the club outright.
A staggering deal in excess of £1billion is being finalised before the consortium approaches the Glazer family, who would consider a sale considering their current financial position.
An unnamed source confirmed that the mammoth offer was good to go, but that the Asian consortium would also consider buying into the club if the Glazers didn't want to sell up.
"All the finances are in place and they are ready to approach the Glazers," said the source.
"They have done their homework down to the minutest detail and realise
the Glazers are under pressure to service their mounting debts.
"If ever there was a time for United to be vulnerable to a buyout, it is now." "Make no mistake, this could be the biggest football deal of all time.
"Roman Abramovich's investment in Chelsea will be nothing compared to
this. If the Glazers are ready to sell, the money is absolutely on the
table."
