Nemanja Vidic has put his future at Manchester United in doubt by asserting that he will not be pushing for a new contract at Old Trafford, meaning he could be offloaded in the summer.
Vidic was in the news on Wednesday after declaring that he was unsure what would happen in the future, while he has made no secret of the fact that he and partner Ana would favour a move to warmer climes at some point.
The Serbian stopper has been persistently linked with potential moves to Spain, with Barcelona frequently touted to be among his favoured destinations, and his recent comments have further fuelled the speculation.
United could be forced to cash in on their defensive lynchpin this coming summer, in order to avoid having to offload the 28-year-old for a cut-price fee with his contract expiring in 2012.
"I don't want to push the club for a new contract, I don't want to push anybody," he is quoted as saying by The Daily Mail.
"I'm happy here and I think I showed that in the games. I want to be part of the team every game and give 100 per cent.
"I never said I'm unsettled. Other people say that and write about it. I can't fight against that. I don't want to keep talking about these things."
Should Vidic opt to leave Old Trafford, it is believed that Sir Alex Ferguson would attempt to land highly-rated Palermo centre-back Simon Kjaer as his replacement.
The 20-year-old Denmark international is considered one of Europe's finest prospects, having helped his national side secure automatic qualification for the World Cup, and is believed to have a £11 million buy-out clause with the Rosanero.
