Manchester United club captain Gary Neville, perpetual antagonist of Liverpool, has declared that the Reds only have themselves to blame for their current lamentable plight.
Neville, 34, did his best Roy Keane impression in coldly and calculatedly asserting that Rafa Benitez's men's exit from the UEFA Champions League was simply due to their poor performances in Europe this season.
Liverpool are out of the competition, with the group stages still a game away from completion, while Manchester United clinched their place in the last 16 with two games spare, and need only a point to win their group.
"As a team, you get what you deserve don't you?" he told the Press Association Sport.
"We are where we are because we deserve to be there and it's the same with Liverpool.
"We went out ourselves a few years back. They just haven't performed well enough in the Champions League to get the results."
Neville will no doubt be relishing the Reds' inability to win games in the Premier League of late, since beating United 2-0 at Anfield on October 25th, they have drawn two and lost one of their subsequent league matches.
The United skipper also told of his frustration after returning from his domestic three-match ban to a losing United side as they crashed 1-0 by Besiktas at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
"I would have liked to come back into a winning team but we have to move on."
